Notes from Artificial Intelligence News - 15

Notes I took from the artificial intelligence news that caught my eye between April 1 and April 12.
- Registration is no longer required to use OpenAI’s free AI platform, ChatGPT. The chatbot that introduced artificial intelligence into our lives is now more ‘open’. (Registration is still required for DALL-E 3).
We’re rolling out the ability to start using ChatGPT instantly, without needing to sign-up, so it’s even easier to experience the potential of AI. https://t.co/juhjKfQaoD pic.twitter.com/TIVoX8KFDB — OpenAI (@OpenAI) April 1, 2024
- Samsung is reportedly bringing generative artificial intelligence features to its ‘unwanted’ assistant, Bixby. For us Turkish users, turning off the thing that hasn’t been used for years was already equivalent to installing Chrome after installing Windows. I think insisting on something that has become an object of hatred for some could cause efforts to go to waste even when it does something good later. But, of course, they know best. Even Microsoft ended Cortana, which we couldn’t use, and activated Copilot.
- OpenAI’s text-to-video conversion tool Sora released its first music video completely made with artificial intelligence, for the song “Worldweight”. The result is almost like a psychedelic journey. The visuals in the video have a hallucinatory effect. It contains fantastic elements such as leaves turning into fish and having cameras instead of flower petals.
- Another interesting news piece. Elon Musk has increased the salaries of artificial intelligence engineers so that other companies do not poach them. While the debate over whether artificial intelligence will take developers’ jobs continues, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that they have maintained or even increased their value, at least for now.
- A tool has been introduced that allows real-time editing of desired areas while generating images in DALL-E. So now, the missing piece has been completed while creating visuals with artificial intelligence. We will be able to take the visual we like among them and shape it according to our personal needs. Actually, this feature existed in Stable Diffusion, but it was harder to use. Also, using Stable Diffusion required a good graphics card and a basic level of training. Soon, even small children watching videos on YouTube might be able to use artificial intelligence.
- It has been claimed that OpenAI and Google used YouTube videos to train their artificial intelligence models. It is alleged that they used more than 1 million hours of YouTube videos to train artificial intelligence models like GPT-4 and Bard. These videos were processed with OpenAI’s highly accurate speech-to-text tool called Whisper. YouTube’s terms of service prohibit the content on the platform from being used for AI modeling. Google, on the other hand, argues that such data is used only with the permission of users participating in Google’s experimental feature tests.
- OpenAI rolled out a major update for ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. This update brings the power of the GPT-4 Turbo model to ChatGPT and brings along many important improvements such as ‘More Natural and Concise Answers, Enhanced Writing Skills, Expanded Knowledge Base, and Advanced Logical Reasoning’.
Our new GPT-4 Turbo is now available to paid ChatGPT users. We’ve improved capabilities in writing, math, logical reasoning, and coding.

- At the Cloud Next 2024 event, Google announced a new Workspace application called Google Vids, billed as a “video, writing, production, and editing assistant.” Google Vids is an artificial intelligence (AI) powered application designed for non-technical users, including marketers, educators, and anyone who wants to use videos to communicate. As you can see from the video, it is an application dangerous enough to cause some people to be laid off from the company.
- Dr. Andrew Ng, one of the well-known names in the field of artificial intelligence, is joining the Amazon board of directors. Dr. Ng is currently the Managing General Partner of AI Fund, founder and CEO of DeepLearning.AI, founder of Landing AI, and co-founder and former CEO of Coursera. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that Andrew Ng’s “deep experience and knowledge in artificial intelligence and computer science” will be a valuable addition to the board.
