Notes from Artificial Intelligence News - 4

Notes I took from the artificial intelligence news that caught my eye between January 30 and February 5.
- The competition between China and the US continues, supported by artificial intelligence. Developed countries use all kinds of instruments while competing with each other. The article published on Silicon.co.uk shows that in the competition between China and the US, the countries have taken the matter to another dimension using artificial intelligence. The artificial intelligence race between the two countries could have significant consequences for global security and the economy. China and the US continue to increase their investments and research to gain superiority in AI. This situation could increase the tension between the two countries and lead to a new technological cold war. As new curtains open in power struggles, scenarios can be written with previously unused words, and we will see this together - if we live through it.
- According to a study published on researchandmarkets.com , Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Marketing, which was estimated at 30.9 billion USD worldwide in 2022, is projected to reach 196.2 billion dollars by 2030. This means an average growth of 26% every year. The numbers already reveal the potential, but when I read this kind of news, I remember the 2010s and the times when mobile applications were on the rise. Sales, turnovers, and figures were mind-blowing. So the transformation has begun. Kudos to those who can keep up!
- Could the development of artificial intelligence be bad news for Hollywood? Maybe it already is. AI is increasingly being used in film and television production, leading to the automation of some traditional tasks. According to the news from Hollywoodreporter , screenwriters, costume designers, makeup artists, and effects artists are reportedly struggling to compete with the capabilities of artificial intelligence. I think the unstoppable rise of artificial intelligence is pregnant with much worse news for the film industry.
- I saw a tweet about Sam Altman. He says that artificial intelligence will make it possible for one person to build a billion-dollar company very soon. It seemed a bit exaggerated and ridiculous to me, but I have witnessed so many things that seemed ‘exaggerated and ridiculous’ before that I started to think there is a problem with me. With the entry of the internet and other technological devices into our lives, we have witnessed century-old companies being left behind in just a few years. Perhaps this time we might enter an era where one person outshines companies with thousands of employees with what they can do. We will see together…

- Google released a new update for Bard. Google, notifying its users via e-mail, has finally brought an image generation feature to Bard. Backed by Gemini Pro support, Bard has also become capable of supporting almost all languages. I am copying the features from the update page exactly below. By the way, when I tried to generate a visual in Turkish, I saw that it does not support it yet. When I wrote an English prompt, it generated it immediately. It turned out a bit weird, but still, it’s a start. I guess it will get better over time. The Bard artificial intelligence, which I have started using more than ChatGPT lately, seems like it will enter my life more and more.
Bard Powered by Gemini Pro can be used in more languages
- What: Bard Powered by Gemini Pro is being made available worldwide in
all languages
where Bard can be used.
This upgrade will make Bard much more capable in areas such as understanding and summarizing, reasoning and brainstorming, writing, and planning. - Why: Gemini Pro allows you to discover new ways to generate content, interact, and collaborate with Bard. The verification feature is coming to more languages
- What: The verification feature can now be used in Bard’s responses in most supported languages .
- Why: By enabling the verification feature in other languages as well, we are working to help more users evaluate Bard’s responses in their learning journey. To generate the first visual, I entered the prompt ‘Create an image of holographic world’, and it generated the two visuals below.

- Speaking of Google, let’s continue with Google Maps. Google Maps will begin to provide AI-powered recommendations to discover new places by using the data of more than 250 million places and more than 300 million local guides. With an article published on its blog, it is reportedly starting to let selected users in the US use the AI-powered place discovery feature starting this week. Now the time is coming to ask Google when planning events with friends. If it goes on like this, I guess we won’t need to make decisions. Say what you want, and let artificial intelligence choose the best for you 🤔
- Shopify is trying to improve its platform by adding the Magic Image Editor and other AI enhancements to its e-commerce platform. The Magic Image Editor is an artificial intelligence-based tool that allows sellers to easily edit and improve their product photos. They are also reportedly working to improve their platform and make it more engaging using artificial intelligence-based technology to help sellers catalog their products, improve customer service, and optimize marketing campaigns. It is surprising to me that all this progress is happening so quickly. As I see how companies use artificial intelligence in their products/services this year, I expect to be even more surprised. I already can’t keep up with the news flowing about artificial intelligence on my screen. If it goes on like this, I might start losing my mind in a few months…
- Apple CEO Tim Cook said that his company has spent “a tremendous amount of time and effort” integrating artificial intelligence into its software platforms. He also confirmed that generative artificial intelligence will be coming towards the end of this year. So, we will most likely see Apple’s artificial intelligence move along with the iPhone 16.
- While Meta announced that it will use Nvidia’s H100 chips for artificial intelligence on one hand, it is reportedly up to some things on the other. According to Reuters ’s news, they will reportedly use custom chips they designed themselves towards the end of this year.
- There is so much ‘AI news’. I am having a hard time keeping up anymore. After Apple and Meta, this news is from Amazon. Amazon announced Rufus, a generative AI-powered conversational shopping experience. Rufus is designed as an artificial intelligence shopping assistant that can answer customers’ questions, make comparisons, and offer recommendations. Of course, only in English for now. If it comes to us, we certainly have questions to ask as well…
- It is rumored that Apple will acquire the company Brighter AI , which develops applications that anonymize faces and license plates with the help of artificial intelligence. Everyone’s photos and private information are so exposed that it seems like a smart privacy-focused step against the possibility of this becoming a problem in the future.
- Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that he plans to use photos shared on Instagram to train the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) models. These AI models will reportedly be used to create more realistic and immersive metaverse experiences. Because of this plan, some users are worried about how their photos will be used without their permission.
- Artificial intelligence developed to model written language can be used to predict events in people’s lives. A research project conducted by scientists working at four different universities shows that if you use large amounts of data related to people’s lives and train ’transformer models’ used in language processing like ChatGPT, artificial intelligence can systematically organize this data and predict what will happen in a person’s life; even how long this person will live. - Mastercard announced a new AI model with the potential to significantly improve (20%) fraud detection. The model is designed to identify fraudulent transactions in real time by analyzing transaction data. They believe artificial intelligence will help reduce the risk of fraud and protect consumers and businesses. So fraudsters will have to develop new methods. I wonder if fraudsters can also develop new methods using artificial intelligence?
- Meta has added a new feature to its open-source AI model named “ Llama ”. It is said that the newly announced “Code Llama 70B”, with its 70 billion parameters, can code the applications you describe in writing in Python, C++, Java, and PHP languages.
- Scientists are reportedly trying to decode the language of chickens this time. According to the news , chickens do not make random sounds; they have a complex language system. Scientists are trying to decode this language and understand chickens’ emotions and ways of communicating using artificial intelligence and machine learning. It has been shown that AI can determine whether chickens are stressed with 90% accuracy. In another study, it has been shown that AI can identify specific sounds chickens use to warn other chickens about food, water, or dangers like predators.
