Holotron: The Technology That Turns Virtual Reality Into Reality
What makes virtual reality appealing is that it actually replaces reality and holds the possibility of being things we could never be and doing things we could never do. Today’s virtual reality equipment is quite effective, and it especially causes a result like dizziness for those using a VR headset for the first time. But imagine feeling the things you experience in the virtual reality world almost simultaneously in your body. And in your entire body. It is worth reminding that even in Oculus Horizon by Facebook, one of today’s pioneering companies in VR technology, avatars do not have a lower body from the waist down.
There are some companies working on developing technologies that allow the entire body to feel the virtual reality world, just like we saw in the virtual reality-themed movie Ready Player One. One of them is Holotron Technologies .
Holotron stands out as likely the only suitable device for the realistic control of any humanoid avatar, including implanted brain-computer interfaces. It is assumed that the full-body version will eventually become like the Holodeck and Beaming from Star Trek, and the studies are heading in this direction. It can also be used to operate a humanoid robot remotely, as if it were your own body. At least, that is the company’s claim.
The demo shown in the video highlights some interesting features. Notable features include low latency for walking in VR, bilateral force and balance feedback, the ability to feel momentum and moving objects, walking on sliding blocks, and robust control capabilities for sudden changes in force and velocity.
Of course, do not expect to have something like this anytime soon, but it is highly informative in terms of showing what kind of technologies will start entering our lives in the long run. When I first watched the video, the possibilities of its use in fields like fitness, military training, vr gaming, simulation, and of course, medicine instantly flashed before my eyes.
