LG May Release Ultra-Lightweight Augmented Reality Glasses in 2021
It is no longer a secret that the coming years will bring major developments for VR and AR glasses. While Apple’s augmented reality glasses are eagerly awaited, other companies are not standing idle. Excluding Chinese companies whose names are not well-known in our country, there are many players such as Panasonic, Google, Facebook, Apple, Samsung, and HTC Vive. Because of this, I don’t dismiss rumors out of hand and try to follow them seriously.
According to the Korean technology news site etnews , it seems likely that super lightweight (said to be less than 80 grams) AR glasses will come from LG towards the end of 2021. According to the news, LG Electronics, which collaborated with Japanese telecom giant NTT DoCoMo, will launch the augmented reality glasses in Japan towards the end of next year. It is even said that a prototype of the augmented reality glasses developed under the leadership of LG’s CTO is ready.
AR headsets, by their general definition, are a technology that adds digital layers to the surrounding environment. With the development and widespread adoption of 5G technology, I think NTT Docomo will be beneficial at this point and can offer value-added services in creating rich reality. Finally, there is no information about the price. Manufacturers should keep in mind that, in my opinion, just like with virtual reality headsets, they need to drop the price below the $500 level for augmented reality headsets and release useful 3rd-party applications for them to become widespread.
