Seattle-based platform Vreal, which could be considered a kind of Twitch for the virtual reality realm, announced on its website that it has shut down. Things actually started well for the company founded in 2015, and their ideas were good too. The company, which allowed users to record and broadcast their virtual reality experiences as videos using virtual cameras, managed to receive a total investment of up to 15 million dollars. They ended their 4-year adventure by stating in the closing post on the vreal.net site that the technology they offered was ahead of its time and that the virtual reality market did not develop as fast as they had hoped.

I was impressed by the technology they presented when I shared the news that the company received an 11.7 million dollar investment last year. Unfortunately, ideas and investments ahead of their time cause such disappointments, but VR technology has a long way to go, and this path is pregnant with greater opportunities…

The company’s farewell note:

Vreal started with an ambitious idea. VR is immersive and VR content should be immersive as well. For those who are part of the VR community, seeing the astonishment on a friend’s face when they put on your VR headset for the first time has always been inspiring. VR is magical, and the Vreal team wanted to share this magic with everyone. We achieved this, and we are incredibly proud of the work we have done. Unfortunately, the virtual reality market never developed as quickly as we hoped, and we were definitely way ahead of our time. As a result, Vreal is ceasing operations and our amazing team members are moving on to other opportunities. It has been an incredible journey, and we want to thank our community, partners, and investors for their support. If you have any questions or would like to connect, we will keep the Discord server open for another week.

With love from the Vreal team.
