The year is 2019. In other words, the years where it is very difficult to be erased once you exist. Although it is a torment for some, it is a blessing for others. Some of those who consider this a blessing have tried other methods to tour the cathedral. Of course, virtual reality and 360° video solutions are at the forefront of these. Although visiting a place has other aspects such as smelling, touching, finding inspiration, and meeting other people, for those who missed the opportunity, today’s technology offers at least a technological tool to satisfy the sense of sight. Here are some of them:

TARGO is a French production company. Just two months ago, they released an 8-minute 360° documentary on the Notre-Dame Cathedral.

TARGO’s videos can also be viewed on various VR platforms and video viewing platforms. At this point, I would like to state that I believe technologies like virtual reality and augmented reality (VR, AR, MR), which are still in their infancy, will be very functional when the time comes.

  • Oculus Go / Gear VR: You can search with the keywords “The Man Behind Notre-Dame” from the main menu.
  • PlayStation VR: You can use the YouTube VR, WITHIN, or LittleStar applications to watch it.
  • PC VR: You can use the YouTube VR, WITHIN, or LittleStar applications to watch it.

Google Earth

Google Earth uses a combination of satellite and aerial photography along with high-detail 3D scans to digitally recreate the real world. Paris is one of the cities with a fully detailed scan. Google Earth VR allows you to scale the world as you wish and physically wander around with virtual reality.

You can download the Google Earth VR application for free from Oculus Rift or SteamVR . It is also possible to explore it over the internet without VR glasses or with the Google Earth application installed on your computer. You can find Notre-Dame in Google Earth VR by opening the main menu and clicking the search icon at the bottom. Simply searching for Notre-Dame is enough.

If you know of any other methods or tools to experience Notre-Dame or other beauties in another corner of the world, I would be happy to learn about them. Don’t forget to add your experiences to the comments section.
